Hi,which is the best sat nav to get? I have a car one for my jeep, which is fine as it goes anywhere, even across fields when 'Jane' gets us lost! However reading scare stories ,I realise this one just wont do for a 29' rv.Which one would you guys recommend please.Nottoo expensive please?

Still learning........everyday
Watching with interest,

Seems some have had some good experiences with the cheap 7" truck sat navs on ebay from China, between £50-70, but there appears to be hundreds so which one do you choose?

Can't go wrong with the Garmin camper 760LM.. Have used this fro a couple of years now & she has taken us exactly where we wanted to go every time.. Brilliant, but that's only my opinion & experience..

Past 6 years used a basic TomTom 720. No problems as most is common sense, Can not think of any dead ends or tight roads which we could not pass through easily.

The maps had not been updated for a while so as Portugal has the Pay as you swerve the Pot Holes system now, It was just as cheap to buy the TomTom 5150 Truck Pro.
What can we say about the Pro without being banned from this forum.

It does have a few things(well one) which is clever.

All sat nave have problems, even the snoopers will take you off track.
A friend bought one of the China navs and he was pleased with it, especially when he got stuck in Shang Hi rush hour traffic....when asked for local Chinese take away in Boldon.!!
Only thing he said it was quiet and it did not compensate for background noise levels as TomTom and others do.

We've used one of the cheap satnavs found on Ebay for about £70 with the trucking software.

It allows you to input the vehicles size and really works well. Mine's hooked up to rear camera for reversing.

Only downside is that some times it takes you a slightly longer route keeping you on major roads as far as possible.

Never got lost, which is more than I can say for my wife's Peugeot, the software in that is crap. So bad, that they paid for us to buy a Garmin whilst they sorted out the initial version of software.

Only thing to look for is that it covers the UK as one, not as separate countries. Several areas of Wales are found in England (even on the latest Peugeot software!! despite numerous complaints!!)

Ifound over the years that truck satnavs dont take you on a very scenic route . They tend to keep you on motorways all the time

We have snooper 8 with campsites included touch wood it's taken us every where we have needed only once it tried to take us down a lane but common sense told us to ignore it , when we spoke to camp site they said the lane is able to take large trucks but no passing areas so no-brainer really

An interesting assortment of answers.I think I would be too scared of wasting money on a cheap chiese one from ebay. The snoopers are good, but most positives are for the Garmin 760. the snooper ventura is nice ,but more pricey.I have a Tomtom in the car,but you cant input data.will check out garmin on ebay then.cheers folks.xx

I use a 5150 Pro at work when I have to drive an HGV and generally find it to be pretty good, although been driving more than normal for the last few weeks and it's cocked up a couple of times, once on a very low 11'6" bridge which luckily I cleared by about 2" and once on some tight backstreet detour of Battersea, although the Satnav can't account for peoples moronic parking. Will probably get the same for the bus as I'm so familiar with it and it has a camper function.
