As a motorhome you should be charged £6.50 but they have now closed the self service lanes and their T&C's now state as shown in red - I have heard of one or two disputes where the collector has their own opinion contrary to common sense. Note the bit about Disabled - don't know if that applies to you ??

Please Note Motorcycles and UK Disabled Badge Holders are exempt from Toll charges. Also there is No extra charge for towing Caravans / Trailers. However, all vehicles must stop and be classified individually. Motorcycles are only able to use lanes with Toll Collectors in them.
Please be advised there are foot/cycle paths on the "old" Severn Bridge (M48) in both directions that are well signposted and accessible from both sides. However there is No foot/cycle path on the new Second Severn Crossing.
UK and EUROPEAN Disabled Badge Holders Procedure
UK and European Personal Blue Badge Holders eligible for an exempt crossing will be required to attend a manned toll booth and hand their UK/European Blue Disabled Persons Badge to the Toll Collector. The Toll Collector will check the presence in the vehicle of the the Badge Holder and the validity of the badge; the badge will be scanned and returned. The barrier will then be raised to allow the journey to continue.
 
I would go across the M48 no charge, if they class you as a commercial vehicle over 3.5 ton it's going to cost £19.60
 
So are there no tolls on M48?

PS they have changed the rules and if you can walk - I think it is 30m you don't qualify. Most days I can do 30 m which is little more than across a good size room and back. The doctor more or less implied to just fudge it a bit, but I just didn't feel comfortable doing that. So no Blue Badge for me :(
 
Sorry bum steer, there is a toll on the M48 , I use the M50 from just above Tewkesbury to Ross on wye. Or the A40 from Gloucester to the A48. No Tolls that way. I like the way they charge you to go into Wales but it is free to leave. Should be the other way round :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
 
Hi , the toll will be £ 6.50 ,, the problem you may have is that you are on the left and the toll booth is on the right, if you have a disabled badge ,you will have to pass it to the booth as they take the number off it,
Beware The passage through the booths are quiet narrow but doable if you line your self up ,,
If your coming from the north ,, why not m5,, m50,, A449 (dual carriageway) all the way to Newport ,,joint the m4 west then through the tunnels and Tredegar house site is just up the motorway (2nd exit after the tunnels) . This time of year a lot of site may be closed , so phone ahead , if your thinking of doing the gower (port eynon / rhossili Etc)
Just take your time as the roads will be quiet this time of year ( and don,t forget the caravan sites down that way got 40ft static caravans down the same roads)
Pembray site will be open , on the flat and great beeches, also you can stay on the marina at burry port ( just have a word with the harbourmaster)

We've always paid the car fee £6.50 even when we've had a car on A frame or trailer. If they try and charge more argue the point but I doubt you will have any trouble.
Good advice as always from Larry99 just take your time through the booths, they are narrow, keep your eyes on your mirrors so they don't hit the yellow posts and watch low down for the concrete kerbs like I said TAKE YOUR TIME and it will be fine. Also like Larry says the booths are on the right so you will have to cross over to the passenger side window and stretch over to pay the fee.

Larry put us onto a great site in Cardiff last year 'Sophia Gardens' it's a ten or 15 min walk into the centre of Cardiff along the river edge path and well worth using if you want to visit Cardiff, water and electric on the pitches we never used the dump and I don't think it was really set up for RV type of dumping more for cassettes.

That's a bit steep charging £30 per night with EHU and another £10 for the toad:mad::mad:

Yes I agree it is a bit steep but the location is VERY good if you want to get into Cardiff particularly if you have no toad, very easy to cycle or walk into city centre. When we stayed there I was on a rail training course so it was handy as I could drive to the course and Elaine rode into the centre every day. As far as I can remember they never charged for the car........that may be because I never mentioned it though, I never hid it though :rofl::rofl::rofl:
 
When you are looking at £40 per night like that its almost getting to the room price for a hotel. It is a lovely site ( or was last time we went) but do feel they are extracting the urine with that sort of cost. And why charge for a toad - they don't charge extra for a car pulling a caravan !! same principle really
 
I stayed at the Cardiff site just after New Year - with my excellent planning I am retracing my steps again :0 :0 :0

The site was dear but it meant I could just get into the city centre. Otherwise it would have been a taxi fare every time, plus I wouldnt have had the scooter with me.

As I say - dear, but a good site. So very many of the sites in the UK are not near anything. Fine if you are a city dweller looking for some country air. But I have lived in the country all my life and now want to visit places of interest, and there are very very few well placed sites - and those that are like the Bristol one seem difficult to book into.
 
After having changed Strict Lady to say avoid toll we started out and she did a recalculate, and guess what - took us over the bridge anyway. But I think the tolls must have numberplate recognition and as I pulled in it flashed up £6.50.

Started to rain halfway over bridge and is so dreary now I have had to drive with the headlights on. Mmmmmmm Wales!

To be honest she probably did you a favour, it would have cost you way more than the £6.50 to avoid the toll and worse still you'd of had to drive longer through that England country ;):rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Thanks for some reason I think I saw them the one and only time I visited Borth back in the 50's, along with literally thousands of Man o' War Jellyfish (in the rain - if I remember)

I have just booked a newly refurbished Travel Lodge at Heathrow for our flights to Florida, as they are at 9.00 a.m. and I would hate to miss the plane because of M25 Traffic. But they cost me £29 per family room. Makes the £40 for a site look a little stupid.
 
Don't worry Sue - its raining on the Devon /Somerset borders and has been since 10am and looks like its set for the day

We stayed in a Holiday Express in Gloucester back in January that was £39 per room including eat all you can full buffet breakfast and free coffee in the lounge all day - seems like Cardiff think they can get away with it and probably can due to the proximity of the Cardiff Arena / Motorpoint area / Dr Who / Castle and so many more places in and around there is always something going on.

Me though I can be in Cardiff in 1 1/2 hours so I will either camp somewhere cheaper or drive up for the day. There are plenty of small campsites for a £10 to £15 nearby so if I need I will go on them and drive in if I need to.
