A couple of people have requested info on pitches etc. during our France, Spain, Portugal Trip.
For any further details please ask but for now here's a few photos of our 35' on various sites...
1. That's our drive...KEEP OFF :biggrin:
2. Pont Authou Municipal south west of Rouen
3. Le Grande Vigne, near Poitiers (Excellent BUT please do not go here without speaking to me first.)
4 & 5. Urrugne, near Biarritz.

1. Municipal at Burgos (Spain). Had to park with drive wheels on the road as they'd had so much rain. Decent site but low trees and quite pricey if you don't have ACSI

2. Hotel Regio, Salamanca....Easy access and a good location. Fill your water tank before pitching up.

3. Caseres. Another great site with your own shower/WC room!

4. Camping Albefeira - compared to the others on the Algarve we found this to be the most suitable for our needs.

5. Merida - Squeel lak a peeg!....let's get outa here! :crying:

1. Zahora...beware of the trees! :crying:

2. Tavira...just like a car park but good facilities. Ask them to open the back gate!!!!

3. My mates farm in 50 acres of Dordogne Forest. don't ask :001_tongue:

Hi Keith,

Thanks for any information regarding RV friendly sites :thumbup: however would those you mention be able to cope with up to a 40 footer?

I believe like ourselves that some RV owners who like to travel abroad and don't want any hassle from the Police are changing from A frames to car trailers so details on site pitch sizes that may have to accommodate not only a 40ft RV but also a 20ft trailer and a car would be very helpful.:001_smile:

There's a couple you'd struggle with at 40' ...Merida and Grand Vigne.
A couple that are possible but you'd need to check out yourself... Burgos and Caseres?
Regarding A-frames...We covered around 1,500 miles in Spain alone.
We saw more police in the first day in Spain than the previous week in France and without issue.
In all we must have been seen by 20 or more 'old bill' whilst driving in Spain and had no problem.
On one occasion we were on a deserted motorway...the only vehicles in sight were us and a motorway patrol car. He came alongside and appeared to be scrutinizing us. However, he then accelerated away without issue.
I am led to believe that the ability to impose 'on-the-spot' fines has been removed also???
We were a little hesitant prior to leaving home but following this trip we would not hesitate to A frame through Spain next year.

Keith, With the greatest respect I doubt if Alan from Car-a Tow or any UK A frame manufacturer would guarantee trouble free A frame use in Spain. Most of these firms offer you a downloadable printout in various languages saying how your A frame is legal,but they re safe in the UK and YOU are arguing with a gun carrying Spanish Police Officer?

We only visited Spain once with our RV & A frame outfit and got pulled over by the Spanish Traffico Police,I have heard many times others say, "We have visited for years and towed with an A frame and never been stopped" if the wife could drive I'd risk a small fine and being told to separate the vehicles but as she doesn't I'm stuck:sad: hence our recent trailer purchase and our A frame was a American Roadmaster with Brakemaster braking system operating the tow car brakes progressively via the RV's air brakes far superior than the 'caravan type' applied when the trailer runs in the back of the tow system.

Interesting to see the bikes on the back. Wondered if the heat from a pusher caused any problems to carrying bikes. Obviously not :001_smile:

It is unlikely to overheat the engine as the bikes do not cover the radiator, one thing it will do is alter the air flow and this can lead to mor dirt being pulled into the alternator which on the cummins engine is a weak point, I have known many low mileage Cummins need a new alternator with a rear radiator side rads seem to be better but still have know them need alternators :thumbup:
