Hi we are thinking of going to Morocco for the first time at the end of the year anybody got any useful info they care to pass on.We have 3 dogs that travel with us anybody know if they can come with us.Thanks Bob. :thumbup:

On the motorhome fun forum a group went last year and had loads of good advise blogs, they're getting ready to go again this year. Sounds great, thought about it ourselves but they all seem to have smaller euro vans and worry about the dogs getting back into Spain.

as to the dog so long as you have a copy of the bllood test and it clearly shows the titra result you should have no problem s .
although you dont need it now to get back into uk .they do sometimes ask for entry back into spain from morocco. mine used to go every year . she first went in 99 .then she had to stay in spain a few months before entering uk ./ ideal just have a longer holiday.
she left uk before the passport scheme started but we did have re entry papers for her . thanks to tony blair getting involved . he was very helpfull. organized re entry for us .

I am also looking at a Morocco trip. Few questions for anyone.

1. Any issue about a trailer with car?
2. What is best route, Tarifa -Tangier?
3. What is the best ferry for 11.5 mts (4mts high) plus car trailer. (Like the Pont Aven is the Best ferry to Santander for example)
4. Insurance issues, am with NFU, and have queried them
5. Breakdown cover issues, am with Arrival now!
6. Time of year, considering a month, say October?

You best be a little careful, this is a link to the DEFRA site, and Morocco isnt listed which means rules are very different.. Its always wise to check.

In reply to some of your questions

2) I would steer well clear of Tangier Ville, the city of Tangier as it has many local youths trying to hide in your RV to get to Spain. Use the new Tangier Med port from Algeciras, it is a well run port without the problems found in Tangier Ville.
3)I used the Balearic line but note that none of the "fast ferries" will take an AMERICAN RV as it is too big.
4)You will need a green card for third party insurance in Morocco, I paid £17.50 to Comfort Insurance for it before leaving.
5)You will not get call out assistance in Morocco, any breakdowns you have to deal with yourself and keep the bills till you return to the UK.
6)October would be a good time to go but remember that the weather in Northern Morocco is similar to Spain i8n the winter so you can get rain and cold weather at times.

Great country, we had a blast and can't wait to go back (15th Jan)
One of our group did have a dog and had no problems in or out. Not being a dog owner however I have no idea how he did it or what was required. There have been subsequent threads on Fun detailing the requirements.
Plenty of big rigs in Morocco such as Concordes but not a lot of RVs. generally you shouldn't find a problem with size. The main problem with the roads is potholes, general chaos in towns, and donkeys everywhere.
Re breakdown insurance - it's not normally available from uk providers. ADAC in Germany provide cover at very reasonable rates but have apparently stopped accepting UK vehicles possibly due to some dispute with the AA which is their UK partner.
However Moroccan mechanics are the tops. It is very difficult to get parts because they all have to be imported (and customs is difficult and expensive) so the Moroccans are excellent at REPAIRING things rather than just replacing them.
I speak from personal experience as we broke down and had to wait three weeks for parts from Germany (delay mostly due to Customs) but the labour cost was really, really low. And those boys know what they are doing. This was before we had signed up with ADAC!
We also had some bodywork repaired at a cost of euros 150 that we were quoted £1500 parts and £500 labour in the UK. Cracking job too!
Somebody on Fun who has been to Morocco many times says that if a Moroccan mechanic can't repair it, it's time for the scrap yard!
We also had solar panels fitted for euros 130 each yes that was FITTED not just supplied. And again they did a good job, much neater than the UK supplier had done on the two existing panels as far as the cabling on the roof was concerned.
I think that if you have toured Spain then you will find it no more difficult in Morocco
Oh, and the average campsite is about £5 per night INCLUDING electric.
And diesel is about 75p a litre.
