Hello To All,
We are heading back from over wintering in Portugal in a couple of weeks and once in the UK will be heading to the west coast of Scotland for a while,
We are traveling up the M6 and are thinking of spending the night at the toll road services at Norton Canes and then the Moto Lancaster Services.
Has anyone any experience of either of the Two please.
Thanks
Shawn

Hi, Not really a good idea to stay in services, as very noisy and Lancaster svs are very small in the lorry park, only takes about 20 artics max, and gets full up very early on in the afternoon, although the coach park may be a bit better for room if they will let you stay there?? but at about £20 p/n pretty expensive. Norton canes is very big and much quieter. Why don't you have a look at the sites on here for overnight, far better than the services as no fridge parking up beside you running all night???? Roads Routes & Campsites is just below the normal posts and under general forums, LOADS of sites all the way up from the docks to Scotland. Regards Garry flatpackchicken

Staying in a services next to a refridgerated arctic is no fun at all did it once in France (before I knew it is not a good idea on safety grounds) the noise is awful you may as well keep driving for all the rest you won't get:sad:

We always google search the pubs in vicinity look up what they say about car parks and food.
Then we go on Flashearth or Google satellite view have a look at the car park, next ring up and ask can we stay over if we drink in the pub and or eat.

No refusals stayed over free but usually tip them well, and you eat and get drunk with the site fees.:thumbup: Londy

Shawn,

Red Lion Farm http://www.redlionfarm.co.uk/ is only minuets from either Junction 14 Stafford north or J13 Stafford south which both ourselves and several RVOC members have used and can recommend.

Just wanted to say thank you for all the info.

Gary and Cathy,Thank's for info. I don't follow the forum as much as I should, did you get sorted with your car and trailer ?

John and Carole, I will add Rimmer House to my list of possibilites.

Londy, I tend to allways google when looking for campsite but hadn't thought of looking for pub car parks so will do now.

Mick and Pat, I will check out red Lion Farm as well.

Flatpackchicken, Thank's and I will post some information on our Portugal trip very soon but lets just say if it wasn't for the MOT we wouldn't be leaving yet.

I tend to dip in and out of the forum but it's all ways a good source for information. So thank you to all.

Slightly of subject...sorry

Many years ago Garry we parked up over night in a French supermarket... From 2 a.m onwards trucks rolled in and out.. Gave up at 5 a.m and drove off in my under pants.. Good job no one saw me.. Found a quite street then back to bed. But agree service areas area waste of tie, that is even if you can get in one for the trucks, even the just parking places are now getting impossible to stop at .. If you have to... Better keep on moving, or arrive earlier enough for an aires or a camp site.

UK motorway areas are a joke cost wise... Even when you can pay extra and get a discounted breakfast (fleet in Hampshire) ... 2 hours day or night then pay up.

I can recommend Norton Canes as a great place to stop for the night.

We've done it a couple of times now and the lorry park has been practically empty.

There's a large grassy area you can park next to, (great if you have a dog or two), and it's simply a case of getting a ticket from any of the tills in the cafeteria area, £16.00.
