Many moons ago, we took our dual axle caravan to Jersey. As we were attending a Scout camp there was no one to escort us and so we had a police escort. Proper posh it was. They were very nice, stopping all sorts of traffic as we passed through and went around tight corners, to and from the site. The locals stood and looked, I don't think they had ever seen a double axle before. We had to get permission to use it, on what technically was not a proper caravan campsite and also the permission from the traffic police to break the rules and drive on the road. That together with the fact that I took two of my rifles, because I was also visiting the Jersey Rifle Club, brought chaos to Jersey in general. The ferry was held up for two hours when Chinese whispers turned firearms into fire alarm. As we stood waiting for the rifles to be brought to us from the captain upon arrival, we were chatting away to the escort police about life and the price of fish. As soon as the rifes appeared, their stance changed. You almost saw the hat change from friendly to official, when they said " Please can we see the licenses for these please sir".
