having Not had a caravan for a few years, and in the rv normally wild camping or the occasional CL . This weekend we are staying in a Camping and Caravanning Club site at Clent Hills. Well we had a nice welcome from the site wardens but have been reminded of some rules several times. Our puppy managed to escape when one of the grandchildren was getting out of the rv. An assistant warden arrived from nowhere to remind us that dogs must be on a lead at all times. I did point out we would put her on a lead as soon as we caught her. Then my daughter arrived with four grandsons, while I was at the supermarket. I drove back to the rv to unload the shopping and within a minute, the warden was back to tell us only 1 car was allowed at each pitch. Even though the site is half empty. But rules are rules[, the toilet block is festooned with laminated signs telling you what you can and can't do. I will get back to wild camping and CL's a.s.a.p.:lol:/SIZE]

At Cambridge CCC they insisted our cats had to be on a lead.

most have more rules than a prison camp.
in spain the tops of the fences go inwards so you cant escape .
they are prison camps ,ha ha .
and dont drive on the grass unnecessarily or you will be told off for that.
even when i was driving sewage tankers we werent allowed to get too far off the roads as it was a bad influence on the campers . wardens used to follow us to make sure we didnt .
you do have to laugh.
they put the sewage pits in some very awkward places .

Well at Lickpennies, I fell foul of the 6 meter apart rule so moved. Then fell foul of the" u cant wash that here rule coz we is on a water meter rule". I only use about 5 buckets of water and we brought 75 gallons with us I said. Then fell foul of "the sludge that comes of your bus when you wash it makes the weeds grow rule" So I used my you've p**ssed me off rule" and drove over his grass TWICE. Needed to wash bus for Southport so left early and stayed at a great site down the road.

I know why they call them wardens now.:lol::lol:

Spelling wrong there Paul its Warders :lol:

That is the reason why we nearly always use CL's - some of them are in the most spectacular places with views to die for

but which ones are the warders ,ha ha .
probably more freedom in a prison any way.

certified locations which is only licenced for 5 caravans/ motorhomes..

Thanks Paul, I have been looking at one of those tonight in the area, (Dayhouse Farm Fishery) but the security doesn't look so good on CL's???

Its not, you can get out any time you like:biggrin:

Never had any problem on a CL in 40 odd years of camping - unlike organised sites where you have 100's of people about

In Majal, the original, the head gardener who spoke no English, except "no possible" came over at 08:00 when I was washing my coach, by then nearly finished rinsing off, so that ended the stand off!

I have never stayed on a CCC or a CC site, indeed I cancelled my membership of CC after the forum fuelled anti RV stance.

However animals roaming off leads is annoying if you are not a lover, and frankly having people with little plastic bags clearing up in front of you whilst you have breakfast is enough to make me heave! So I would ban them completely... of to the nuclear shelter now.

Like all things, these sites should cater to everyone. It is not hard to make a few pitches RV friendly. Children's playground at one end of the site so people who do not like children , can get away from them. And a dog walk area, so you don't have to watch responsible ownews clearing up after their dogs whilst having your breakfast. Just a little bit of thought required, we can all live on the planet together.

What security do you need ? Never had any security problems in 14 years of Club Sites, CL, CS, or wild camping, here and abroad. :001_cool:

Warden at Edinburgh CC site made me move my RV 8 inches to the left as he was not happy with the position.

Its a funny thing about dogs, and I have one, a biggish one, I walk her on the lead always, and try to get to places where no-one is, but she isn't good at understanding English so is so damn inconsiderate to squat when she needs to and doesn't wait to get the designated area. I always clear up her mess. I don't deliberately take her to cr*p in front of people eating, and I will apologise to them if she does.

Humans on the other hand I have found to be a mixed bag, some are loud and noisy, some leave litter, some are quiet and considerate, some tidy up after themselves.

While we are on about rules, some site staff are officious and some use common sense. The site I have just left have rules (its a C&CC site) I didn't find the staff there anything but pleasant and helpful. We did break them one night, my step daughter decided to be helpful one evening when we arrived back late and the gates were closed. We had a load of bags so she drove up to the gate to collect us and the bags......thats a no-no after 11pm....it was about 11.10....did they rant and rave ..no, first thing they asked, was anything wrong! I did explain that offspring was unaware and I would have a word, and that was enough, nothing mentioned again.

I do like their 6m rule though, it makes for decent space for each pitch. We have landed on a site near Harrogate, where i think the rule is 6 inches, you couldn't get more people in if you tried, I can almost shake hands with my neighbour out of the window. SWMBO is NOT impressed and I feel we will not last the 2 weeks we are booked in.

Happy days
