Our Coach has the big chrome bus mirrors but the area to watch for us is the exhausts one each side as the carriges have a raised walkway both sides if you take your time you will be fine

Thank you for that. I have taken off my SuperShinyStainlessSteel exhaust ends. As I had to cut the original pipe back to fit them, the exhaust ends are now about 4" under the coach, more or less level with the tyres. It looks funny though without them.

Sure Smudger has used the Chunnel, he is a large unit with large trailer. If he can get on with his dodgy driving anyone can....HeHe.

We got return Rv plus Toad £83 and a back return for £172. That's Dover to Dunkirk.

Well I measured mine Arthur and it was about 108" (I should be so lucky ). However, I have the usual Velac type mirrors, which investigation shows can be turned after loosening a grub screw. This will gain me at least two inches each side, so hopefully, all will be well.

I really appreciate your efforts and also those who replied with thoughts and ideas.

SuperMike, with the correct size imperial Allen key already in his pocket and mirrors marked so he can put them back where they belong easily without the need of any adjustment.

Hopefully 1 less bit of drama to think about when you are going for the 1st time, perhaps slacken the grub prior to boarding to allow the mirror to move if nudged. Our are the same style but are fairly immovable even after loosening the screw - by the way payment can be made in sovereigns as they are far more modern (17th century) rather than those out of date guineas which are so 16th century.

So, seeing that you are now in France how did it all go boarding and exiting the train? Would you use train in future or back to the ferry? What are the pro's and con's of each?

With a disabled wife, the ferry is a no, no, as previously described on another thread.

The tunnel worked well. As Arthur described,the only problem is the mirrors as you pass by where the carriages join. Look to his picture and measure up your own, mine was 108". However undoing the Allen screw and spinning the mirrors through 90 degrees sorted that out. If you can't do that then you will have a problem. Also, where you get your boarding card to hang in the windscreen it is a little tight low down as they have about 3ft high concrete protectors for their machines, so care is needed for the awning arms and your front wheel trims, if they are the sticky out type like mine.

All in all I will only use the train now, if only for the speed, 35mins and you are in Calais. Even for Spain and onwards it would be very cost effective and an enjoyable trip.

Well don't think we will be using it as we are in Cornwall no point driving to Dover then through France then on to spain cheaper for us to get the ferry straight to spain then if we fancy france on the way back I might think about it. As you say for the speed but then still got at least a 6 hour drive home if not more

What you are classed as does not come into it. You give them your reg. number and instantly, they must have a link to a database somewhere, they know what type of vehicle you are. You tell them the dimensions, they tell you the price based on when you want to travel. It varies with the date and time of day. Over Easter weekend, the price trebles.

True, however, by phoning at least you can ask questions. And, to be honest, I bet I can make a booking faster on the phone than on the web. Using the putter, something always seems to happen, so now I simply don't bother, just ring them up.
