Canaries worth the trip ?

Good evening all ,

Thinking of taking a ferry to the Canary islands for the winter.

Has anyone done this ?

Please post your experiences / thoughts on doing so.

What I meant was .... Thinking of taking the RV on a ferry to the canaries ??

Has anyone ever done it ? If so , please share your experiences.

Looking at the map, because I've never been anywhere near there, it seems an illogical thought. If you can find a ferry company to transport the RV, you would be forever catching a ferry to the next island, assuming there was such an operation. You could take the RV and rent a car whilst there, but it seems to me that the cost of transporting the RV would be far in excess of a high quality hotel.

I don't know what prompted the question or what the plan would be, whether you plan a short holiday or a long retirement, but if they have RVs out there, perhaps you could rent or buy?

We've never done it ourselves, but it can be done. I know of 4 different motor homes/camper vans that have done the crossing in the last 3 years. I understand they catch the ferry from Cadiz. Not really sure of the details - one of those who went was a large RV (I think he's a member on here), one was an old Hymer (Brit), one was a small wobble box and the last one was last year..............a couple from Austria in their farm tractor and caravan!! I kid you not............see pikkie below

Currently in Lanzarote. Yet to see a camp site but have seen one Spanish motorhome outside IKEA where the owner was trying to fit a mattress through the side door and a Belgium, Dutch and German camper vans wild camping in a crowded car park in Costa Teguise.

The island is 37 x 12.5 miles, and air fares, hotel accommodation and food are so cheap I cannot see any financial gain in bringing an RV here. The only reason to do so would be "because I can".

Stay in Spain or Portugal. Even Morocco would be preferable.

A Google search for Canary Isles Camp Sites appears to show only 4,

2 on Tenerife, Camping Nauta and El Camping Montaña Roja

2 on Gran Canaria El Camping Guantanamo and Camping Playa de Vargas.
