Can you recommend a site oop north....ish

Hi

We are heading up from Surrey to the North East to visit family over the half term. We are looking to stop over for a couple of nights on the way there, so that would mean stopping somewhere not too far from the M1 anywhere between Northampton and Sheffield.

We have two young kids with us, so anywhere that has something for them would be a bonus.

Would really appreciate any recommendations for a nice place to stop,on a (possibly) wet weekend in October.

Its probably too far north for you but I stayed at Ripley Caravan Park the other day. It was easy access just off main road. Big pitches. There were masses and masses of very tame ducks. An onsite heated indoor swimming pool and I think a games room. Onsite shop. Friendly staff. The kids I saw there seemed to be loving it.

It was about three miles from Harrogate. http://www.ripleycaravanpark.com

An onsite heated indoor swimming pool and I think a games room. Onsite shop. Friendly staff. The kids I saw there seemed to be loving it.

Sorry - no good looking at the blog at present I am still hung up with working out how to use my new apple stuff.

Just outside Holy Island tonight, will hope to go over at the second low tide, as the first is pretty well pre-dawn, and I can't see much point going over in the dark

Wales was great. Went up Snowdon (but on one of the original steam trains, not Thebus), toured The Electric Mountain, saw some lovely churches and the home of the Ladies of Llangollen. Then for a bit of retail therapy at Cheshire Oaks followed by a tour of the Beatles houses in Liverpool.

Back to the Midlands for some work on Thebus - since then Joderell Bank, down a coal mine, Bakewell, Chatsworth, Eyam Plague village, Ilkley Moor (bar t'at) took the waters and had a Turkish Bath in Harrogate, night at the Kielder Forest Observatory, and Alnwick Castle and Gardens.

Northumberland is truly beautiful and wonderfully relaxing to drive in - especially after Bradford and Macclesfield

Thanks for that Sue. It is a little further north than I was looking at, but it has some good things for the kids to do. I may do a double stop and pop in here. It is a good price too.

Wow you are inspiring!! Slow down you have plenty of time to see everything!! how many miles have you covered since you bought the bus?

Macclesfield, we were there over the weekend our daughter lives there, if I had known you were passing through there I have told you there is a great site at Capesthorne Hall superb shower block and grounds and you can go around the house....not that we have yet but will next time we stay there.

You are near where we are heading to as I have family in Seahouses. There are great coastal views if you go along the coastal road through Seahouses, especially Bamburgh Castle. There is also the wildlife at Budle Water and you can get an RV to fit on the parking verge on the left right next to the water. Thanks again for the site tip.

Yes - I had intended going all the way on round and down the coast, but had to go back to the Midlands, so called in at Liverpool on the way back.

I am headed down to visit London with family over the half term, and may perhaps go to Kent after. Had intended to be abroad by now, but things have changed, and I shall be in UK till the spring half term at least, so might try to get to Ireland, in which case I can go back via Wales (Forgot to say I went round Anglesey last time as well)
