Now Thebus is back on the road (complete with scooter and scooter lift) plusLittle Miss Phoebe I am beginning to think of where to next.

I had thought to visit Ireland during the summer, but if the weather looks okay it might still be on the cards. And Europe beckons this winter. When I start looking for ferry prices it seems that the ferry companies go out of their way to make it as difficult as possible to find the best price.

They want to know exactly when and where I want to travel, but that is immaterial to me, I want to know the cheapest way of getting across even if it means a 2 am sailing, and the day and month don't matter either.

Is there a good way of finding the best prices please?

We always travel on DFDS seaways.. Have found them to be the cheapest, but the best tip I will give you is to buy a 'flexiticket'.. Cost an extra £20 each way, but then allows you to travel up to 72 hours either side of your actual sailing time. Check it out on their website.. Dogs cost £15 each way.. (Don't forget the dogs passport)

We are with the caravan club, so did a quick check for you,

Dover to Calais Return Sept 6th 12.15pm To 20th 11am

9.5 mtr motorhome X 3.2 mtr height

2persons DFDS £186.30

Same details P&O £ 219.30

This is booked through the caravan club as a member discount

BUT with aferry.co.uk Same details 10mtr x 4 mtr MH

£182.00 Guess who with ,,,,,,,...,.,,,,DFDS

So I wonder if it,s worth being a member of the caravan club?

Thanks Larry - I am a member anyway, but I wouldnt fit under their 3.2mt height allowance anyway. Looks like I will be checking with DFDS. Is there an easy way to find the cheapest sailings without entering the dates and times of travelling? (y)

Ferry prices change by the time of day ,,, which day ,, and which month,,
Also of course by lenght x height x persons/dogs
So can be a bit of a minefield

To answer your question Sue
Not that I have ever found, its a case of sitting there and entering dates and times
One tip is to clear your cookies after every attempt or you will never get back to the cheapest price you saw

Apologies for hijacking this thread, but we've never booked on a ferry with an RV before and I've been looking at the DFDS site, but can't seem to find an option for a 10m RV (they only have motorhomes showing on the drop down list and they are 6.5m Max) Do you have to search on a particular page?
