I am thinking of heading out along south wales hopefully keeping near the coast as much as possible, but what are the roads like?

Any recommended sites open at this time of year? Might start with Tredegar?
 
Hi dippingatoe, not been down that part of Wales for years so can't help with sites but it is a lovely part of Wales. The beaches are lovely and I seem to remember the coastal road was good. Enjoy your trip.

Thanks - why I am asking is last time I visited was back in the 70's to Worms Head, and even in a car the roads seemed narrow and difficult. I was hoping times had changed. Will probably miss Worms Head off this time as I know I would never make it to the beach. But interested where anyone else might have got in an RV
 
The road across from Llanelli and around to Carmarthen is fine, with the roads you have negotiated in the higher parts of Scotland I'm sure you will have no problems, some really nice villages to call in. Once you get to Carmarthen then follow around to Haverfordwest and around to St Davids some great places to see then around up through Fishguard and up to Cardigan all very easy and doable without any difficulty we have done it several times in the opposite direction. I'm not really sure on the campsites as we don't really use them much around that way as we tend to use the laybys. There is a small site at White Sands by St Davids that we have stayed at a couple of times, the road down to there is narrow but very doable until you meet a car coming towards you but plenty of passing places. We've always done it at busy times and had no problems, our last RV we took down was 30' and we will be taking the new one down which is 33' and 8'6" only thing is not sure if it would be open this time of year. and all you get is a field to park in, bit of a slope but there are flat enough areas. There's a nice beach, toilet block, cafe and carpark down there and thats about it but very pretty area.
 
We had our 28ft Winne down to Worms head a few years back, easy enough and did crack a smile on the kid doing the car park attendant bit. As you say, beach a bit tricky. Not a bad chip shop on the road in next to a working mans type club, huge car park and no one bothered us while we had lunch. White cliffs bay site is nice, but the access was dead tight for our 96" Winne, so if they haven't trimmed the hedge back probably a no go, but the prime hookup pitches are high up looking accross the channel. There's a site at port einnon right on the coast, that's easy to get at, narrow in places but just after we arrived the biggest coach I'd seen appeared, so no problem. Not much there, just the views.
Biggish site at Aberarron is very nice as is Abererron, needless to say phoning ahead for all advised, oh, and apologies for any spelling issues.....
