Morning,
One of the many things on my " to do " list is sort out breakdown cover . I have a 29 foot R Vision Trail Lite, which we have only owned for four months , we have covered a couple of thousand miles with no problems , but heading into Europe we will need breakdown and recovery cover, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Our Rv is covered for breakdown through the insurance... In Spain last year had a blow out & called the number on insurance details, and landed up talking to AA Europe..

Worth looking at you details to see if it is included...Stu:001_smile:

Hi Steve & lys, The AA do not cover any vehicle over 3.5t with private breakdown like you have ie AA member,,,, but they do cover any vehicle any weight any size in Europe for breakdown and recovery through a company called Safeguard ins but you have to have ins with safeguard to get the breakdown and recovery, you can also get RAC cover through C&CC again they only cover breakdown in Europe thru another company, they do not cover like the AA anything over 3.5t with private membership, so all in all maybe better to get breakdown thru your insurance company?????? Check/change your insurance, I have full EU. breakdown and recovery (with no weight limit) cover through mine. It also includes an unlimited windscreen cover. Well worth having as I found 4 weeks ago, they were called and started to come out straight away, no questions asked, we got going again and cancelled the fella, no prob. he said, call again if you need us. Good luck, enjoy France, it"s a fantastic place for an RV, wide roads, smooth autoroutes and your steering wheel"s on the right side !

European Recovery option??

Hi
I use CSMA Britannia rescue for all of my vehicles no weight or size limit but you must have worked for a government agency (eg Post office (You must have been a postman some time in your life!!! wink wink))
Bit expensive but then so is getting the bugger back home if it broken.
I tell them when Im going and what vehicles (Motorbike or car ) so at least I can get back to the camp site or home if one or the other breaks down.

Copied from Britania's T & C's ......................

Vehicles should not be more than 7.0 metres in length, 2.3 metres wide, 3 metres in height, or a weight when fully loaded not exceeding 3.5 tonnes.

Hi mike
Csma (civil service motoring org) via LV who I deal with . I have always stated the size issue and LPG conversion , maybe I should recheck. But I believe that this option is only for Csma members.

Yes Dave, I think you need to check, unless your RV comes within these requirements.

Taken from the CSMA Britannia LV, T & C's ................................

Motorhomes – must not be more than 8 metres in length or a weight when fully loaded not exceeding 7.5 tonnes and must be a recognised make and model which has been coach-built for that precise purpose. :001_smile:

Hi mike just checked with Csma and they changed the policy section b and expected me to read it. So after 9 years with them I now have found that they will cover until the end of the current policy (march) in the uk only. So I have cancelled the renewal .
Just goes to show that I should have read every renewal for the last 8 years.
Let me know how you get on as I will be looking for a new breakdown cover for next year.

The main reason I picked Safeguard was for the number of extras they include. They are certainly not the cheapest but they do seem to provide "The Rolls Royce" of cover.
I haven’t seen anyone say a bad word about them yet, and although not the cheapest they were not extortionate.
A mate at work is being quoted silly money for 2 weeks cover for a car on a holiday to France. I am off to Germany in a few weeks and very glad it's included with my Insurance.

why not take the chance and if it goes wrong fix it near where ever you are . garages are every where . stay off motor ways that keeps recovery costs down . every village as a mechanic .

I have the RAC Arrival cover for my Fiver plus Dodge Ram. I believe as long as you do it through the CC Club etc they will cover most lenghts of RVs and Fivers. I phoned them up a couple of times to check,,and they said, " no problem,,if we can`t recover you we will get someone to do it, at no extra charge".
