Well it's coming up to that time once more and I just found out my local place cant do test as they have been taken over by Ford and Slater and the powers that be have stopped them doing MOTs while the name change is going though.

So now I have to find some place new

I'm going to be giving this place a try in Leicester.

Beaver Bus will be a bit meaner with an MOT than Gary is as they are an HGV test centre also and their examiners are all DVSA employees, so make sure no bulbs out, while Gary will change it for you and pass it they will fail it and you will be paying for a retest (y)
Went to see Gary the other day and he gave me the bad news that they cant do MOTs just yet.

You spoke about bulbs how will the react to LED bulbs in the headlights?
Gary passed them last year.

Beaver say they are motor home and RV specialist.

May be better to refit halogen back in
If it's not a major job to do, no arguments then.....
That's not an option for me unless I buy some original headlights & even then swapping the wiring will be a pain as everything is soldered & shrink wrapped.
Luckily my MOT man is my best mate's son & I've known him since he was in nappies!
He can do motorhomes but only up to around 5 or 6 tonnes, I can't remember the rating on the jacking beam, then there's the door into the mot bay, his dad's Hymer only cleared by a couple of mm's.........

Well it was due tomorrow, but the other half needs me to drive her to the hospital to have eye tests and the drops they use means she cant drive afterwards so had to rebook the MOT for Friday

No repairs, just MOT while you wait!
I havnt found Redbourne particularly good .. first year passed ok, 2nd year 2 advisories - 3rd year with no work done I took to Mathews Haulage / Renault Trucks at Duxford - straight pass. 4th year a rubber boot on a steering rod had come loose - the tester just put it back to where it should be and a straight pass. Duxford is just off the M11 so no hassle to get to.

Beaver are not RV specialists the owner owns a fith wheel thats the nearest they are to specialists, but none of their testers are in house because they do HGV MOT's all of the examiners are DVSA employees that are sent in for the day they may not even know which examiners they will have day to day, like our driving test examiners we shouldn't know who we are having day to day, though we usually do as we know who we are not having, lol

Rick,
I have found that not all ATF testers are 'Class 4' 'qualified ??
Tested previously at our local HGV test station (pre-ATF) - we had to wait for a particular tester to complete the HGV test he was conducting - as the 'vacant (y)(y) ' tester apparently not Class 4

Seemed very strange to me at the time - given that V/E's can issue prohibitions to all 'classes'

I do know that ATF lanes have to be separately 'validated' to be able undertake Class 4 (large) tests using the lane - so not all ATF premises can do class 4

Thanks for that info, I didn't know that, Beaver bus never did MOT's prior to becoming an ATF they were just Bus operators it maybe then that they employ a class 4 tester of their own........in which case I spouted utter rubbish lol
