We’re planning on heading over to Europe for for a few months towards the end of September. Thinking of driving down through France, into Italy, across to Slovenia, then down through Croatia and Bosnia to Montenegro. Back home probably via Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and Germany. Can anyone recommend any must-see places to visit in any of these countries or great campsites en route ? Thanks

Here's a few

Croatia...Plitvice waterfalls

Italy...
Pisa, a lovely peaceful lakeside campsite (with regular bus service to Pisa) https://www.lagoletamerici.it/en
Rome
A short walk to the tram station linking it to central Rome, a Roma 48 hours pass is great, available from the campsite reception.

Ljubljana, Zagreb, Bratislava and Budapest all have camp sites (city camp) nearby... Budapest and Ljubljana are fabulous.

Budapest...
Poland
Krakow Salt mines
and

Bialowieza (North east) Poland.

Most places in Germany are well worth visiting.

I could suggest hundreds of other places, but the fun is finding stuff along the way .

Good luck (y)

One other unique, if stomach churning, place to visit is Auschwitz, Poland.

You can stay in your motorhome in the grounds of

Center for Dialogue and Prayer
Centrum Dialogu i Modlitwy w Oświęcimiu
Coordinates;
50.023292,19.198112

The main camp gate is a few minutes walk away (Arbeit Macht Frei) and Auschwitz-Birkanau (which is even more harrowing) is not far away (about 2 miles, I cycled there alone as my then wife was too upset to see any more). The town, nearby, is worthy of a visit too.

We're all aware of what happened there, but we personally found it very haunting and disturbing.

Amazing. Thanks so much for your very detailed replies. All noted and now on our to do list We’re just going to be winging it for the most part, but it’s always good to ask those who’ve done it before for suggestions

Out of interest, did you find the Find Penguins app easy to use? And do you need to have a paid subscription to keep your stored routes? Thanks
easy to use, i don't have a paid subscription. I think by not having one it limits the amount of pictures you can put on per pin. So easy to get around by just dropping another if required.
Although they have a great thing where you can pay to have a book printed of your trip on your return. Done this for mementos and very good.

I also use polar steps which is very similar, poss a bit better. Just keep real time tracking on your phone.

App says my limage was 4.7 k kilometres

We’ll check out Polar Steps, too, thanks. We’d guessed your trip was around the 3000 mile mark, just from what we’ve been planning. We really wanted to carry on down from Croatia through Bosnia to Montenegro, but it gets a whole lot more complicated when travelling with 3 x dogs into a non-EU country, so it looks like Bosnia will be as far as we go this time ( or it might all go out of the window and we end up winging it and turn up in Poland )
