Default USA A-Frames

I have read that the A-frames that you can get in the States are better than those in the UK in that they stay on the RV (folded up I think). If I got one would it be easy to adapt the towed car? would it be legal? Can anybody recommend one?

Thanks

I use a Car A Tow frame which folds flat and stores in the car boot..

Can't comment on US frames but I think iit would be better to have a UK frame, if you change your car and require a new towing socket it would be cheaper and more easily sourced..

Rory (Forestboy) was telling me about an A Frame he uses in the States. From what I can gather, the point of the A attaches to the car, and the arms are individually extendible so that it makes for easy hooking up because the flexible armes allows whole frame can move left, right, forward and back and then lock out only when you pull away. Sounds great, but like Jim says it might be really dear to swap toads, but that said its expensive anyway.

Research, research, research Best of luck

NB The exchange rate is dire at the mo

Some are very basic with 2 bungee arms in a V from the towbar to a recepton on the car (I have used this system on my RV towing a Jag XJ6 which had a huge chevy engine in with no braking system)

Then you go the other way with Rory system.

I have one major downside to braked A frame with cables and that is when the cable gets dirty or damage by parkers bumper to bumpering is it makes my brake just hold on slightly and on my third set of brake disc pads.

Hi All

I use a BlueOx 10000lb braked A frame to tow our SUV behind our RV in the states. The system works brilliantly the car follows perfectly even in full lock u turns and the brake system is a must in the mountains out here. The A frame stays on the RV in a folded position and the connect time is 2 or 3 minutes easy and clean. I have photos if anyones interested.

Thanks all, I think that the dollar is just too strong. I am going to buy a smart car that already has an afraome setup. Do any of you have a smart care on a frame?
