Default New Workhorse Deisel

This rig Looks nice though I am a bit worried by the term in the description that boasts European style cabinetry and fixtures, for that read "Lightweight & Flimsy"

The W16d looks interesting on a chassis under 7500kg gvw, wonder what mpg and who will build on it. About time there was an RV with a diesel around 20 mpg

Hi,

Our truck has the 2008 6.4L Navistar diesel engine - very similar to the
Maxforce 7.

Average mpg over 8000 miles is 15.37. Truck & trailer just over 7 tons.

Being new to this RV lark and only having experience of euro MH i find it amazing that an industry as big as this keeps potential customers in the dark regarding weights.I had seen the advert for the Serrano and liked what i saw length and especially width and height wise.I assumed that being a puller and also smaller than other rv's that i have seen that it would be under 7.5 tons.Alas it appears not.As an aside do Travelworld answer there e-mails,i e-mailed them five days ago for some information but as of yet not a peep

p.s iwould normally have telephoned but i'm in Portugal at the moment

Default Workhorse W20D & W16D.....

Workhorse introduced the diesel option back at the end of the 2008 model year...they first introduced it with Damon Avanti on the W16D. 'W' is designated to the Workhorse name, featuring such advantages a Wide Track Chassis, independent Bilstein shocks, Brembo brakes, 50 degree wheel lock & noted 3 year Warranty (Inc Europe). 16, stands for GVW being no more than 16,000 lbs (7257kg). The D obviously stands for Diesel, which is a two stage turbo diesel (not to be mixed up with a 'Twin Turbo") V6 4.5L built by International (owned by Navistar), which comes with a 5yr warranty (UK Covered). This chassis was pushed by ourselves back in 2007 to bring an UNDER WEIGHT american motorhome with european inspiration, but keep solid build quality and american utilities, such as air con, generator, awnings, all the features we have grown to expect and love from all american manufacturers, but offer 2 crucial differences, NARROW AND DIESEL.

Shortly after Workhorse introduced a W20D, same as the W20, but with the 6.4TD, which is the (unfortunately) identical engine Ford are replacing the unreliable 6.0TD with. Hopefully ALL Turbo issues have been sorted!!!!

Damon still are the exclusive manufacturer to build upon the W16D, thus the only Workhorse Diesel to be under weight. We are exclusive concessionaire for Damon.

What is of interest when we went in December 2009, Damon have introduced the Avanti on a 16,500 lbs (7499kg) Freightliner MCL with Sachs engineered suspension geometry.

The Fantastic bit about this MCL Chassis is that it has a 5.9 Cummins lump mounted and a Allison 6 speed 'box on the end ;-)

The Sarrano is over weight as it is built on a 20,000 lbs chassis, let alone with a big heavy 6.4 V8 TD at the front end!

Hope this helps!

Tom
