Default Safety at Service Stations

Just thinking about the fire at the service station post.

Do you travel with the LPG on? If you do, do you turn the fridge off prior to filling with petrol or derv at the service station?

Travel with LPG on to keep the fridge/freezer working, usually forget to turn off when filling up..

However, I've yet to have it demonstated that this is dangerous, instinct tells me it is but reasoning says how could it be?

Petroleum gasses are heavier than air so won't ever reach the fridge, and filling with diesel produces very little if any gas..

I think this is the same risk as using a mobile phone and causing an explosion or fire, .. mostly urban legend .. ?

I'm open to persuasion...

I think its a reasonable safety precaution that a fridge pilot burning away on a forecourt should be extinguished, but I also think that someone who makes a living teaching others about Personal Security should remember to turn the fridge off more than he does.

I normally remember about half way through the filling up process
