The recall of motorhome fridges bringing the total number of units involved to more than 1.6 million across North America, making it one of the largest safety recalls ever. Dometic Corporation, which specializes in recreational vehicle accessories among other things, says that 10 of its fridge models can develop a fatigue crack in the boiler tube, which would allow pressurized coolant to escape and possibly catch fire.
A company spokesman said the two-door refrigerators were installed in a variety of motor homes as original equipment and were also sold as replacement units. The refrigerators were made between 1997 and 2006. The company initiated a recall of about 950,000 units in 2006 but just recently expanded the recall to capture another 700,000 refrigerators. A spokesman explained that the vast majority of the refrigerators are fine but its intent is to find and repair that small number that could pose a safety problem. There have been no reported injuries or fire. The fault was found after the company began to notice an inordinate number of repairs on the refrigerators and after analysing the paperwork voluntarily "reported ourselves," the spokesman said. The models involved in the recall are NDR1062, RM2652, RM2662, RM2663, RM2852, RM2862, RM3662, RM3663, RM3862 and RM3863. They were installed in a variety of motor homes made by Fleetwood, Keystone, Monaco, Newman, Four Winds, Airstream, Thor America, Blue Bird, Crossroads, S and P Conversions and Trail West among others. For more information the company can be contacted at 1-888-446-5157 or at its website Dometic. Check your Fridge here

I had a similar problem with my NORCOLD fridge, leaking coolant gas. After about 12 months and numerous e-mails,phone calls etc.they agreed to ship a new cooling unit from the States, and fit it F.O.C. So if you have a problem keep hasseling them, they should sort it out in the end.
