I first contacted Dometic UK on 22nd September advising them that I had a refrigerator that fell into the recall category.

Dometic USA shipped the required parts on 23rd September.

Kit will be delivered to Dometic UK Service Engineer on Monday 6th October and he will visit me on Wednesday 8th October to carry out the work.

16 days from notification to completion including shipment of parts from USA and home visit. That's what I call service.

Well done Dometic.

I have just been to the Coach, which is in storage some distance from my house, to check the fridge details and, sure enough, it is also one of the ones affected. Thanks to the info already posted, I have sent an email to John Harvey and now await his response. Without the details on this site I would never have known about it. Proving its worth already....

Had a reply from John Harvey, who is awaiting the next batch of kits to the UK. However, the spooky part is that from his email I discovered that the main Dometic office in UK is only 2 miles down the road from my house. I have lived in Blandford for 27 years and have never heard Dometic mentioned. How weird is that?

I know of two, thankfully both were caught in time before any serious damage was done to the RV.

Default recall of RV fridges expanded to 1.6 million

Just to put things in perspective, according to dometic in the usa approx 0.01%(which is only 160) of fridges recalled may have a problem (don,t know where this figure came from) as I have replaced 5 cooling units with this problem in the last 18 months. The kit that dometic supply is only to prevent the escape of gas from catching fire, it will not prevent the cooling unit from cracking, if you have crack develop in the cooling unit and the fridge is out of warranty dometic will probably not replace the cooling unit under warranty. Dometic have been forced to do this by the american Nhtsa(national highway traffic safety administration). The amount this has cost them must be huge. 1.6 million times the cost of the kit plus 1.6 million fitting charges!
say the kit costs $8 times 1.6 million equals $12.8 million plus 1.6 million times maybe $20 (32 million) equals a total of 44.8 million dollars. Would any business do this unless they have to? (have a look at the nhtsa recalls on a search engine makes interesting reading).
Dunc.

I've got my dim head on, are we saying it should be done or to small a risk to bother?
