Default Any good sites near Calais

I'm returning from my first trip to France on the 3rd Nov on a 7:30am sailing from Calais. I've tried Alan rogers, the Caravan Clubs overseas sites, the Big Pitch Guide as well as other publications but failed to find anything open after 1st Nov. What I had in mind was to stay overnight on the 2nd Nov not far from Calais so that a 7:30 sailing would be fairly straight forward exercise. Can anyone recommend anywhere suitable.

A few folk park up at the port if its an early sailing, you wont find any campsites close to calais still open in november, the couple that are open cant take us bigger units and wouldnt allow movement off the site before 8amish anyway, so your choice would be aires or the port. have you got the 'all the aires book'

Yes I have it but was a bit reluctant about using an aire for safety issues.
If its an aire or nothing then I guess it must be an aire. Many thanks for your quick response.

We have stayed at the aire near the Calais port twice with no problems once in winter and the other time over the last Maya bank holiday. There is also a municipal campsite around the corner from the aire.

Hope this helps

Thumbs up what direction are you coming from?

What direction are you coming from heading to Calais? a bit further down the way towards Rouin about 2 hours out from Calais there is a E'Lecerc that has plenty of over night room to park and easy access to Calais via the motorway.. safe and sound.. but no good if you are not coming back from that direction.

We have always stayed on the port whenever we have been on an early ferry

We are talking dedicated aires not motorway aires, rule of thumb if when you get to one something makes you uneasy (doesnt feel right) move on, As long as you are not over tired, and have locked and secured everything properly you should be fine. Most of the proper aires are close to/in towns or villages and have water, dump facilities some even have ehu. But for my money if you are on a 7am sailing you need to be there for 6am anyway so i would use the port , a lot of folk that cross on the late ferries also park on the port till morning before starting their journeys

one problem with that Mick they close the end of september and do not open untill the sunday before easter if easter is early or april if it is late. We also use them if they are open when we are over as the vet just down the road is handy and they speak english
