Default Road tax on LPG for heating?

I've just filled my LPG tank at a shell garage ( 1st time)

Even the genny now works

But is it possible to get a fill of non road duty LPG anywhere, they get enough tax without paying more than I need

The coach is Diesel, the gas is only cooking heating & genny

Hi if you go to an LPG dept. not a fuel station, or Countrywide farmers sites, they are account only, and I think will bill you at the heating rate. John (roadrunner) on fun uses them, and could give you better info.

I went to our local (Southampton) Calor Gas depot and asked about the lower rate of VAT for the gas I was putting in my diesel RV, which is just for cooking etc they did not want to know and said it could not be done!!!!

Regards Pat

Hi we went to a party at a site Zaskar was staying a few years back, and filled up a gas dept. in town near him, they did part at the heating rate, and part at the usual, I think it was flogas.

Hi Folks,

Our local 24/7 Calor Depot at Bury St Edmunds charges the two rates of tax so it can be done Pat and indeed they are set up to do it !
I wish we had Countrywide Farmers in Suffolk Brian but i guess that 44p a litre is plus vat which is still cheaper than Calor or anybody else i guess

We are being ripped off on gas because the likes of Calor work in with the Oil companies to keep it at a similar level the word cartel springs to mind!!! I would love to know how Countrywide get away with it as they must source it from one of the big boys!

I had the same conversation with the Flo-gas chap at Redruth and basicaly the pump is set up to include the fuel tax , so the answer is NO,

I did try the other approach, what if You deliver to my house, here the problem of course is that they use a totaly different connector for the static garden tank.

Remember that Olley! Good do

As far as Congleton Gas supplies goes (think thats the one you mean), I don't think its suitable for RV's anymore. At that time, you could swing into the carpark of the factory opposite and then reverse straight back into the gas yard. However, all the land opposite has now been fenced off and there's no way you could swing a 30 odd footer into the yard straight of the road. I dont think thier hose is long enough to allow you to park across the end of thier gate and fuel up from there.
There is another supplier at the garden centre on the main Congleton to Macclesfield road but I'm pretty sure they only supply at full rate.

Hi Zasker, yes it was good do, hog roast is my favourite

Getting back on topic, I dropped my trailer in the road and drove straight in, and then reversed out. Pretty certain from memory (which is crap) that it wasn't tight as that's the way the tankers went in and the pipe from the pump was fairly long. But we are only a littly at 30', so your likely right.

Never even thought about that one, but it is a good one.
Have a look at this site (it's a bit old and I haven't checked it, but it does say that it gives locations where Tax Free LPG can be purchased.

Hope it works.
