Default Charger question

Heres one for the "techies"

My Santara has 50 amp electrics and it seems that on 16 amp hook up the charger won't work
Works fine when powered by main engine and works fine on genny
I'm told it's something to do with the Megahertz , has anybody experienced this before

Hi Tony, I posted on the fun site but thought it worth posting here too.

Have you checked the charger output, if low , then it looks like you need to replace it, if zero, you may have a fuse blown or a loose connection.

The RV charger is 60hz, UK supply is 50hz, I suspect the charger isn't reaching it's full output, but you know that already..

I changed my charger, which was useless, for a Victron 70Amp charger / 1600 watt inverter. Not a cheap solution but I was lucky a got mine second hand.

Phoenix MultiPlus 12 / 24 / 48 Volt / Phoenix MultiPlus Compact 12 / 24 Volt - Victron Energy

The yanks don't usually fit decent chargers, they are little more than 12v power supply units which will never fully charge, premature battery failure usually results, replacing would be a worth will investment.

Also look at Sterling

Default charger

Do all of the other 110 volt appliances work ok? (roof air con, fridge, microwave) if they are ok it's probably the different mains frequency.
usa 110 volts@60hz
euro 230 volts@50hz
The transformer that you should have(who did the mains conversion?)will drop the voltage from 230 to 110 to run the american appliances however the frequency will stay at 60 hz american chargers don't like this. The early ones buzz like mad and are very inefficient some of the later ones work ok and some won't work at all.
Dunc.
I wiil ring you later, I may have the solution to your problem.

Default Chargers

Hi

IF your problem IS a Knackered Charge unit. I took one out of Mine a few weeks back. It was O/E. but when Westcroft converted the coach NEW they bypassed It. and installed a "Super-charger" so in theory It should be "brand new".

Let me know if you want to deal. it could be as cheap as a donation to my favorite charity (R N L I ). Plus Freight.
