Default New LPG flat tank design

Just been doing some surfing and came across these from Australia: http://www.ppidts.com/propanep/gallery.html

Seem like a good idea, wonder if they import to the UK? Anybody seen them before?

I made enquiries in October 2008 as it seemed that the aluminium tank may be significantly lighter that the usual steel tanks. As it turned out that does not seem to be the case.

Their e-mail reply to my enquiry was:

At this stage we do not have a distributor in the UK/Europe area, but we would like to find someone.

We intend to have the European certification completed early in the New Year, and when this has happened we can supply direct until a distributor is appointed. Keep an eye on our website as it will be announced on that.

The CT305 tank is approximately USD$1150 + valves (around USD$145 including protection box) and is 65kgs

The CT280 tank is approximately USD$980 + valves (around USD$145 including protection box) and is 55kgs

This is based on single tank purchase price, for orders above 10 tanks the price drops by 20%.

On top of that is required straps, which we manufacture but it will depend upon how you fit the tanks, however to give you an idea they are around US$28 each and most tanks only need 2.

Best regards

Not Gold plated, Olley - but light enough to fit a couple on your roof!

You may laugh Dick but I still reckon its a good idea.

A couple of flat tanks like these would fit a treat on the roof of my winnie.

Wink Is there any rules about roof fixing i wonder?

Is there any rules i wonder about fitting lpg tanks to the roof? Being flat almost they would be easier to sling up the back middle of my rv... But they do seem expensieto me.

Hi Bob there's no legal reason not to fit them to the roof, just need to get it certified by the installer. When I first put forward this idea 4-5 years back, there was a a suggestion that I needed certifying.

Some buses in the states already have them fitted to the roof, and its hardly a new idea. Just found this picture, there not LPG but CNG tanks, and are intact after the fire.

If they work out OK-----look good to me--------they will be made in China----then at a realistic price !!!!!!!!!!
I still think YOU need certifying Ian-----putting that weight up-top

Its not much weight when you think about it, 200litres of gas is 100kg add the tank and bits, say another 100kg, so 200kg on an RV that weighs nearly 9000kg. I know its going to lean more on corners, but not a great deal more I wouldn't have thought.

Just had a reply from them, still no European distributor and certification not till middle of 2011. As your reply was 2008, I am not holding my breath.
