Thanks for that Olley - I did download the 30 day trial version of AVG last night and left it running overnight - after I had had a clean computer note from Norton 360.

This morning AVG told me that it had identified and 'adware' problem but had isolated it. I have just Googled 'Adware' only to find that it is the remnants of an old 'Stopzilla' anti-spyware programme from a previous hacker-attack. But the end result is that I really cannot see what AVG can do for me - better than Norton 360 is already doing.

Anyway, I shall follow your advice and look at those new downloads.

The way I am going I shall end up with nine-tenths of my storage full of anti-virus programmes!

Bring back the chalk and slate - at least I could understand that.

Dick

Exclamation At point I was sending out 48 plus at a time

The hijack got so bad that I was receiving spams back at 48 at a time, these were bounced back undelivered. ..i never sent them, but they were carrying my email address as if I was posting them..

I started to use my GMail account and advised everyone I knew that I was not using the AOL account... In the end someone... And i do not blame them... Complained to AOL and they sent me a warning that my account would closed if I did not sending these e mails out...

Ok I had enough now, so I called AOL .. Spoke to someone in India.. For a change he spoke good English and under stood my plight..he re-set my password at AOL end.. I then reset it a couple of times on my own system. .. It partly worked.. But later in the day I still was receiving returned mail by the bucket full.. So another call to tec support at AOL.. Offer again to reset the password at AOL end.. I explained we had been down that road already.. Finally they escalated the issue... And today... No spams..... In fact no emails at all. I did a test tonight and it seems to be sorted.

AOL lifted the threat of terminating my service as they accepted my password had been broken ... So firstly sorry to all of you that have suffered the spams or emails from me with not so nice links...

But a word of warning,if you use AOL beware that your password can be broken.. Mine was not an easy password... But it shows you that they can be broken. I was told I need to change it on a regular basis.

Think I will continue to us Gmail for now.

Complained to AOL and they sent me a warning that my account would closed if I did not sending these e mails out...

shirl had the same problem and also received the warning....just one phonecall to aol and they reset her password.....no more 'spam' mails sent.

shame they didnt close the account...we've had it around 10 years now and still pay the original £40 per month for unlimited net and free anytime local, national and mobile phonecalls.

with so many companies out there offering the same/similar deals for less than a tenner a month i sometimes wonder if theres something wrong with her mentality

I have the silver account and pay £7.31 including vat for the Internet... I was told the speed I can get in Tunbridge Wells is as fast as silver will go.. I had the top account paying £30 a month, but had such a bad experiance with tec support..it was recorded and is now used to training staff..I wrote to AOL in Ireland complaining... They reduced my account 4 years ago to £6.99 and has only recently gone up to just over £7

I have a deal with BT on my two land lines anytime calls 01, 02 and 0870 and 0845 and I use free to air sat.. No sky now. For my mobile I have a 600 minute , free text and wifi on A year contract ..sim only at £20.64 a month... With vodaphone... A doing for my laptop on the RV...plus I can use the Internet for free from the Iphone4.... Purchased my own IPhone 4 from apple .. There are deals out there.
